Live: Chromeo

At 1am Canadian electrofunk duo Chromeo went on stage at Apollo for an exclusive live set. The tent stage was about half full at the start of the show but it sure was a dedicated audience. And Chromeo didn’t let any of them down. From the first to the last song they delivered hit after hit in a way few artist can.

Chromeo is an odd couple… David Maklovitch, the hunky, audience interacting star, and Patrick Gemayel, the more mellow and the one who’s really in to the music making. The oddness makes them great together. They’ve said themselves that “Chromeo is the only good example of Jewish and Arab cooperation”. Well let’s hope not but it’s a hell of a cooperation.

They repeatedly praised Sweden to be one of the first countries to get their music, “even their first album”. Everyone who has been following the duo since their break through album Fancy Footwork could easily sing a long and be part of the show. At times you kind of got the feeling that they could add some extra flavour to the live versions of the songs. On the other hand the more ”album true” songs make the audience now exactly when to freak out.

The show was a funky journey pleasing those who’s into great guitar playing, 70’s synth and deep bass.
Chromeo gave us loads of two step dancing, wicked speaker box and singalong. Anyone who was in that tent really felt that dancing IS the way to go.
