I didn’t catch Harald Björk, so I don’t know anything about how that show went. But when Holy Ghost! aren’t done with their sound check at the time of their scheduled start I’m sensing the delay problem is with Orion, not with the artists. And when the turnout is looking similar to Jinder’s, I’m starting to feel like the place is cursed.
Starting fifteen minutes late, Holy Ghost! immediately let ‘er rip. From the little I’d heard before, and from reading about their music being greatly experimental I had prepared to write, ”I don’t know why we cover this – you can’t dance to it.” It’s a good thing I saw the show before writing the review (it’s this thing I like to do.)
It looks as if Holy Ghost! like Jinder would have appreciated a larger number of spectators, but they appear very professional. It takes a while for the lead singer to get fully comfortable, and it bugs me a little that he keeps on the side of the stage all through the show because I’d like it if he acted the front man role a little better. By the third song however, he starts showing the signs of the kind of band they are – there is definitely energy in there looking for an outlet. Throughout the show there is both a wonderful flow between the songs, and the sense of skill and control powered by honest enthusiasm. When they finish with a pop-like tune the audience has grown at least a bit, and rightfully so. In my opinion they belong on a bigger stage, and placing them (and Jinder) inside Orion may have done them a disservice – they’re a band, not DJs.
(HG! is supposedly a duo, but there were four of them on stage and they certainly gave the impression of being a four-piece thing.)
