Norwegian Röyksopp are about to release the follow up on last years succes album Junior. The upcoming album is an all instrumental album and it’s called Senior. While Junior had that childish out going pop thing going Senior is more introvert and with a darker soundscape. Even the artwork represents this. For me Senior is Röyksopp going back to the landscape they came from with a set of tracks that have that emotion only great works of nature can create. It’s a wider more soulful sound that is a contrast to Junior while at the same time they fit togheter. It’s like the always dancing, always happy Junior became older and decided that it was time to slow down. Luckily always with the option to go back being Junior again since time doesn’t make music go away.
At the Röyksopp SoundCloud page you can now listen to and even download some of the new tracks from the upcoming album. On September 13 you can get the whole thing when it’s released
As a part of the album release the duo also made a fantastic short film called Röyksopp’s Adventures in Barbieland. Take ten minutes to look at it! The music, of course, is from Senior. On the subject of the film Svein and Torbjørn says:
We had a vision, and in this vision we saw ourselves as a sleeping hobo and an old man respectively. The following is a vivid depiction of some of the events that occurred during an intended stay in Barbieland. And remember, It’s a true story….
