At 1am Canadian electrofunk duo Chromeo went on stage at Apollo for an exclusive live set. The tent stage was about half full at the start of the show but it sure was a dedicated audience. And Chromeo didn’t let any of them down. From the first to the last song they delivered hit after hit in a way few artist can. Läs mer »
I was really looking forward to Kenton Slash Demon after listening to Sun and quickly running through a couple of their other tracks on YouTube. Sun is amazing, I’ll say that much. As they kick it off the second Wareika gets off the stage, at first I’m not aware they’ve already begun – just that I like what’s started to play. What I don’t like is that there’s way more bass than anyone could need. I don’t know if they’ve requested it or if it’s the sound guy who screwed up. I didn’t catch Harald Björk, so I don’t know anything about how that show went. But when Holy Ghost! aren’t done with their sound check at the time of their scheduled start I’m sensing the delay problem is with Orion, not with the artists. The first one to enter the Orion stage is Jinder, daughter of riksspeleman Åsa Jinder. I’d never really listened to any of the artists to be reviewed before, but at least I’d quickly played Jinder’s single ”Youth Blood” as well as an earlier song a couple of hours earlier to my instant liking. At eight o’ clock sharp Four Tet went on stage. A strong introduction with Angel Echoes. A smooth voice singing There’s Love In You. It’s electric, yet very authentic – like a wide landscape. Wich strengthens by the evening sun that shines through the tree tops and makes the outdoor theatre stage bathe in golden light. Four Tet is magic. Multi-talented, multi-tasking German artist, producer, fashionista and label boss Ellen Allien is techno at it’s best. Since the release of new album Dust it seems like she is absolutely everywhere. Arvika day 1 gave us one hell of a shower and so far a lot of men playing guitar, some good some less good. While getting dried up we’re getting ready for the evening and night to come which will start at 7pm on Orion. At that time on that stage the Trouble & Bass and Ministry of Sound signed Swedish producer/singer Jinder will start the festival for real. At least for those who like great electronic music. Andromeda might not be the number one stage for electronic music at Arvika. But maybe it should be. With about six hours to go until Four Tet goes live at that very stage it seems so right. The beautiful harmonies and almost jazzy musical landscape could very well make this show an explosion of feelings of all kind. People might cry or people might dance like in trance. German afro-beat/house act Wareika is a true gem which you shouldn’t miss if you like extra ordinary electronic dance music. The music is organic, largely performed with live instruments. Resident Advisor called their music ”Danceable techno-not-techno played at techno speeds.” Well, DO NOT miss this! They’re live on Orion 11:15pm tomorrow. Läs mer »
